Ella Wheeler Wilcox gave evidence of her understanding of the power of the subconsciousmind when she wrote：“You never can tell what a thought will do
In bringing you hate or love—
For thoughts are things， and their airy wingsAre swifter than carrier doves.
They follow the law of the universe—
Each thing creates its kind，
And they speed O’er the track to bring you backWhatever went out from your mind.”
Mrs. Wilcox understood the truth， that thoughtswhich go out from one’s mind， also imbed themselvesdeeply in one’s subconscious mind， where theyserve as a magnet， pattern， or blueprint by which thesubconscious mind is influenced while translatingthem into their physical equivalent. Thoughts aretruly things， for the reason that every material thingbegins in the form of thought-energy.
The subconscious mind is more susceptible to influence by impulses of thought mixed with“feeling” or emotion， than by those originatingsolely in the reasoning portion of the mind. In fact，there is much evidence to support the theory， thatONLY emotionalized thoughts have any ACTIONinfluence upon the subconscious mind. It is awell known fact that emotion or feeling， rules themajority of people. If it is true that the subconsciousmind responds more quickly to， and is influencedmore readily by thought impulses which are wellmixed with emotion， it is essential to becomefamiliar with the more important of the emotions.
There are seven major positive emotions， and sevenmajor negative emotions. The negatives voluntarilyinject themselves into the thought impulses， whichinsure passage into the subconscious mind. Thepositives must be injected， through the principle ofauto-suggestion， into the thought impulses whichan individual wishes to pass on to his subconsciousmind. （Instructions have been given in the chapteron auto-suggestion.）These emotions， or feeling impulses， may be likenedto yeast in a loaf of bread， because they constitute theACTION element， which transforms thought impulsesfrom the passive to the active state. Thus may oneunderstand why thought impulses， which have beenwell mixed with emotion， are acted upon more readilythan thought impulses originating in “cold reason.”
You are preparing yourself to influence and controlthe “inner audience” of your subconscious mind， inorder to hand over to it the DESIRE for money， whichyou wish transmuted into its monetary equivalent.
It is essential， therefore， that you understand themethod of approach to this “inner audience.” Youmust speak its language， or it will not heed yourcall. It understands best the language of emotion orfeeling. Let us， therefore describe here the sevenmajor positive emotions， and the seven majornegative emotions， so that you may draw upon thepositives， and avoid the negatives， when givinginstructions to your subconscious mind.
There are other positive emotions， but these are theseven most powerful， and the ones most commonlyused in creative effort. Master these seven emotions（they can be mastered only by USE）， and the otherpositive emotions will be at your command whenyou need them. Remember， in this connection， thatyou are studying a book which is intended to helpyou develop a “money consciousness” by fillingyour mind with positive emotions. One does notbecome money conscious by filling one’s mind withnegative emotions.
Positive and negative emotions cannot occupy the mind at the same time. One or the other mustdominate. It is your responsibility to make surethat positive emotions constitute the dominatinginfluence of your mind. Here the law of HABITwill come to your aid. Form the habit of applyingand using the positive emotions！ Eventually， theywill dominate your mind so completely， that thenegatives cannot enter it.
Only by following these instructions literally，and continuously， can you gain control over yoursubconscious mind. The presence of a single negativein your conscious mind is sufficient to destroy allchances of constructive aid from your subconsciousmind.
