Clouds and Rolling Mountains, a Qing Dynasty(1644.1911) hanging scroll by Wang Yuanqi, ink and color on paper, 178.4cm×82.5cm, in the collection of the Palace Museum, Taipei.
Wang Yuanqi(1642.1715) was one of “Six Great Painters in the Early Qing Dynasty” and one of “Four Great Wang-surnamed Painters.” Many of his painting are handed down to today, and he had huge influences in painting circles. His representative works include An Imitation of Ju Ran’s Clouds over Rolling Mountains and An Imitation of Huang Gongwang’s Autumn Mountains. Since cloud and mountain are traditional subject matters, this painting is a reproduction of ancient works.
